1. The effect of a scar.
Pretty much every surgery leaves a scar on the body. There is a visible portion of the scar, which is a cut in the skin and the deeper invisible part of the scar tissue. Many times, surgeons are forced to cut also through the muscle and even through the bone. The body heals those holes by creating a connective tissue, called stroma or simply scar.
According to muscle theory, scars can be either dormant or active. Dormant scar does not affect anything. It is just sitting and waiting for the opportunity to become active. Similar to a transition from chronic to acute, dormant scar is a chronic problem.
Active scars are the problem. As soon as there is significant load on the scar it becomes active. Active scar creates global pattern. That means that few muscles around it will be permanently weak. They will not be paralyzed or numb. Just functioning in about 20% of their usual strength all the time. Muscle weakness creates postural disbalance, which in turn creates pain. It also causes degeneration of other tissues of the body.
2. Direction of the release
Every scar has a direction of the release. If you apply pressure on the scar in one way, it will make a muscle weaker. If you apply pressure the other way, it will make the muscle stronger. Finding a direction is very important.
3. Scar Hierarchy
There are dominant scars and passive scars. We have to release dominant scars and activate passive scars.
4. Treatment of the scar
As always you can treat it the right way and the wrong way. In Neurokinetic Therapy we are looking for dominant scar first. Once we find the dominant scar, we are looking for the right direction. Once the direction is known, we release it. Simple as that.
5. Laser therapy
Laser therapy is a fantastic way to treat scars. It helps not only to reduce scar tissue, but also helps to reduce a negative effect on the myofascial layers.

Laser therapy is a healthy way to remove scars. It oxidates red blood cells and helps to dissolve the scar tissue. The fastest way to deal with post-surgical conditions is to release the scar first and to apply laser or red-light therapy after that.
That accomplishes the three pillars of post -surgical treatments. First is to reduce the pain. Second -wound care -dissolving the scar. That cannot be done on fresh scars, but two weeks in can be started in most cases. Promoting healing to prevent complications. The great thing about the laser therapy is that it works even in infected scars.
