Ankle Sprains and Plantar Fasciitis

In the demo, patient Matt had actually sprained his ankle a week or two before.

You can tell his ankle has a major restriction and doesn’t move as freely as it should.

Treatment begins by going around the ankle ligaments and performing cross fiber massage on them. It can be unpleasant for the patient, but it really helps initiate some motion in the affected ankle.

The first ligament I work on is located on the back of the heel, the second is on the front of the foot, and the third is on the inside part of the ankle.

After only a few moments of cross fiber massage on the ligaments range of motion in the sprained ankle is greatly increased. Sometimes we can use traction to better free up the ankle joint combined with stretching and mild rotation.

Once the ankle begins to move more we can focus on the bottom of the feet.

Starting with traditional massage techniques to strip the muscle a bit, I then simultaneously stretch and perform cross fiber massage on the tendon located on the bottom of the foot. After it’s been stretched and cross fiber massaged, most people’s feet problems will be gone.
