Headaches
-Most chronic headaches are actually caused by an issue in the neck or something like tempo mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction which is a problem with the jaw.
-For a chronic headache caused by TMJ dysfunction treatment begins by gently massaging the jaw muscles to prepare the tissue.
-Using circular motions, I then check the ends of the capsule joints in the jaw to make sure they’re properly aligned and the temporalis muscles.
-If someone is suffering from TMJ dysfunction the muscles in the jaw are usually quite tense. Massaging them helps to release that tension. -The patient then opens their mouth so I can test how loose the jaw muscles have become since starting the massage.
-Once we’ve straightened the jaw muscles and they go up and down in a smooth direction the treatment is complete, and headaches often disappear.
