Headaches

Most chronic headaches are actually caused by an issue in the neck or something like tempo mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction which is a problem with the jaw. For a chronic headache caused by TMJ dysfunction treatment begins by gently massaging the jaw muscles to prepare the tissue. Using circular motions, I then check the ends of the capsule joints in the jaw to make sure they’re properly aligned and the temporalis muscles.

If someone is suffering from TMJ dysfunction the muscles in the jaw are usually quite tense. Massaging them helps to release that tension. -The patient then opens their mouth so I can test how loose the jaw muscles have become since starting the massage.

Once we’ve straightened the jaw muscles and they go up and down in a smooth direction the treatment is complete, and headaches often disappear.
